Can You Hear Us? is an effort to bring together the voices of trans, detrans, retrans, gender non-conforming, and questioning individuals calling for inclusive community and solidarity in pursuit of collective health liberation.
As we’re all impacted by health inequality in different ways, Health Liberation Now! invites anyone who has experienced discrimination or oppression while seeking health care to share their personal stories. Submissions can be about your overall journey or specific events as long as they are written in narrative format, are between 500-1,500 words, and reflect on the following themes:
- experiences with or needs surrounding equal access to health care (broadly defined)
- how these experiences are connected to systemic oppression, and
- the hopes you have for collective liberation.
Additional important notes before submitting:
- You can have your stories posted either under your chosen name, a pseudonym, or anonymously.
- Please be mindful of potential triggers or “hot button issues” and add content notes accordingly. Alternatively, we can try to work with you to determine appropriate ones.
- Also be mindful of your own safety and well-being or that of anyone else mentioned in your story. If you get the sense that it may be too risky for yourself or someone else, and it could put you or them in harm’s way, don’t send it! This includes if whatever happened was recent and you’re still recovering from or processing what happened. Similarly, if we have concerns that your submission may compound trauma you’ve experienced, we may suggest waiting on publishing it publicly.
- You reserve the right to request your writing be removed from the site for any reason.
Not all submissions will be published. A submission may be declined because it doesn’t meet the requirements, doesn’t speak to the theme of trans health care liberation, or doesn’t jive with the creation of a mutually beneficial space across all axes of marginalization. We also reserve the right to decline or remove any submission that includes or condones hate speech, violence, or abuse in any capacity.
