Ruth Barrett

Ruth Barrett is a Dianic high priestess, ritualist, educator, author, and award winning recording artist of original Goddess songs. Ruth’s numerous recordings, with musical collaborator Cyntia Smith beginning in 1980, and with numerous solo projects, have been among the pioneering musical works in the Goddess Spirituality Movement. Ruth began her formal Goddess studies with founding Goddess Movement muse Shekhinah Mountainwater in 1975. Since inheriting Z Budapest’s Los Angeles ministry in 1980, Ruth has taught magical and ritual arts in the Dianic tradition at festivals and conferences across the United States, in Canada, and Great Britain. In 1997 Ruth was honored as recipient of the L.A.C.E. award for outstanding contributions in the area of Spirituality from the Gay and Lesbian Center in Los Angeles. In 2000, Ruth co-founded Temple of Diana, Inc, a national Dianic Temple, with life partner, Falcon River. Ruth and Falcon also facilitate The Spiral Door Women’s Mystery School of Magick and Ritual Arts. Ruth is author of Women’s Rites, Women’s Mysteries: Intuitive Ritual Creation, and has been a contributing writer for several books, most recently, Foremothers of the Women’s Spirituality Movement: Elders and Visionaries. At the 2011 National Women’s Music Festival, Ruth was presented with the Jane Schliessman Award for outstanding contributions to women’s music from Women in the Arts. Ruth is currently the project weaver for a radical feminist anthology called Female Erasure – What You Need To Know About Gender Politics’ War on Women, the Female Sex and Human Rights.
